Our History
Foundations of Purpose and Excellence
Methodist Girls Secondary School, Ovim (MGSSO) was established in 1930 by the Methodist Church Nigeria, in partnership with the Eastern Nigeria Government. Located in Isuikwuato LGA, Abia State, the school was created to give young girls access to quality secondary education at a time when such opportunities were scarce.
From the start, MGSSO was built on Christian values, academic excellence, and strong moral training. It quickly became known for producing disciplined, capable girls who went on to lead in education, healthcare, public service, and other fields.
Despite disruptions during the civil war and the later transition to government control, the school remained resilient. Its legacy has been sustained by a committed alumni base and community support. Today, MGSSO continues to thrive as a symbol of empowerment and purpose.
With a growing global alumnae network, including the UK & Ireland, MGSSO is being revitalised through projects that restore its facilities, mentor current students, and protect the girl child from harmful practices.
A Legacy of Empowerment
From humble beginnings in rural Nigeria to a school with global impact, MGSSO remains a beacon of what is possible when education and vision come together.
